Julie Cassity, MS, MT-BC, Founder and President, graduated from Texas Woman’s University in 1986 with a degree in music therapy. She received a master’s degree in psychology in 1991 from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Julie worked as a music therapist at the Psychiatric Institute of Fort Worth and a music therapist and mental health counselor at a community mental health center in Weatherford, OK. After having two children, she discontinued working to raise her children. During this time, she taught piano lessons and group music lessons, as well as provided music therapy services in the community. She also became a certified Kindermusik teacher and a Licensed Professional Counselor. After her children enrolled in preschool, Julie opened a private counseling practice.
Her family moved to Springfield, MO in 2001. In 2002, she opened a private practice in music therapy, which is currently located on the campus of Drury University. It has grown into a large practice with services provided by several music therapists.
In 2014, Julie started the non-profit Music Therapy of the Ozarks, with the vision of raising money to provide funding for services for those individuals and agencies that are not able to afford music therapy, while promoting music therapy in the community.
Monica Horton, MPA, MMT, MT-BC, has more than 10 years of experience as a board-certified music therapist working in various health/educational settings in Tallahassee, FL. Currently, Monica works as an adjunct instructor in music therapy at Drury University in Springfield, MO. She assists weekly in the health and wellness of geriatric/Alzheimer’s patients by providing music therapy services for adults in assisted-living and health rehabilitation facilities in Springfield. She also provides clinical training/field experiences for Drury University’s music therapy majors and interns.
In 2001, Monica received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Tuskegee University and a master’s degree in music therapy from Florida State University in 2005. Monica prepared herself for service in non-profit leadership/management by earning a second master’s degree in Public Administration from Missouri State University in 2015.
